The SDC Iron Designer Challenge
 
Based on the popular television show “The Iron Chef”, the Iron Designer Challenge will raise funds to support the design program of the School of Design and Construction (SDC). Our fund-raising goal of $50,000 will help to create a state-of-the-art media/ technology lab. SDC students will utilize this space to collaborate, research, and design with the latest technology as they create solutions to the academic challenges ahead of them.  
 
Watch live as teams from across New York compete for the title of Iron Designer!
This year’s event will be held Thursday, June 7th at 6:00pm on SDC’s roof-deck. Team of professionals from New York City, partnered with SDC students, will face-off in the ultimate design/ build competition: in 3 hours construct a life-size structure made from simple, everyday materials. Built in front of a live audience and judged by acclaimed industry specialists, one team will emerge as the next Iron Designer!

The Challenge
In front of a live audience, teams must design and build a small life-size structure out of everyday materials.
 
Materials
All building materials will be supplied to teams on the day of the event. There will be a "secret material" unveiled during the event that teams must integrate into the structure.
 
Teams
Each team will be comprised of 4 professionals and 3 students from the SDC.
 
Time
On Thursday, June 7th, the teams will have a total of
3 hours to build.
 
Judging
Judging will take place by industry specialists during the last 2 hours of construction.

The outdoor roof deck and/or gymnasium at the
